Don't Salt My Game | With Laura Thomas, PhD

Join Registered Nutritionist Laura Thomas, PhD for conversations with game changers. Laura talks to people in wellness, foodies, bloggers, entrepreneurs from cool brands, creatives, nutritionists, doctors, body positivity people, mindfulness experts, and anyone else who is shaking up the wellness world, to find out how they stay on top of their game – and to help you do you, but better. It’s not all handstands and courgetti though - she and her guests aren’t afraid to dig deep into the darker side of wellness and WILL call BS on weird, faddy trends, that don’t have any legitimacy or scientific merit. Pixie is a plant-based food blogger, wellness rebel, and nutritionist in training with a serious case of wanderlust and a passion for evidence-based science, and regularly organises events in London. She is currently completing her MSc in Nutrition in London. This episode is a lot of us ranting about nutrition stuff, we talk about not being so militant and attached to labels around food, orthorexia, things to think about if you want to study nutrition, and being authentic on social media. This is a really fun conversation – it’s a bit long so feel free to listen to it in little nuggets.

Today, we’re talking with and actual scientist and researcher who is going to give us the 411 on how to get the perfect night’s sleep. We’re talking disco naps, why sleeping in can be bad for you, how sleeping helps our bodies detox, how night shift can totally screw things up and why not sleeping enough is actually a bit like being drunk. My guest is Dr. Ian Walshe from the University of Northumbria. He is a senior lecturer whose research focuses on sleep, exercise, nutrition, and inflammation and he’s a super smart dude.

Guys, this is a super fun episode. Mark Wright is the tall, hot, Aussie dude who's bringing healthy Indian fast food to the UK - he's also pretty funny. His company, Rola Wala are taking Indian street food next level with their patented (not really) 'fuelled by spice' rolls and bowls that don't feel heavy or greasy. Learn how Mark took his street food passion project and turned it into a well-oiled business machine with plans to dominate the whole country. We talk about growing up down-under, finding himself in India (jokes), AND I asked him the big questions, like why is it called 'street food' when it's basically never on the street?

We're talking to the UK's leading Life Coach about how to get your head straight! Listen to her crazyyy story, and learn how she got her ish together once and for all!

Today we’re talking to mindfulness expert Tessa Watt, and I know what you’re thinking, mindfulness or meditation is dumb or it’s for hippies. Well, you’re wrong, it’s for everyone. Secular mindfulness is BLOWING UP but it’s in danger of becoming just another buzzword.

So Tessa is setting the record straight, what is mindfulness really? How do we do it? What are the benefits? What apps and tools can we use to help us? What’s the real deal with this mindful colouring situation?

There’s lots of good stuff in this episode especially if you’re stressed out or suffer from anxiety or depression, or even if you just want to be better at your job or at life. And you should listen to Tessa because she knows her stuff, she has practiced mindfulness for over 20 years and she teaches it at the houses of parliament, because those old white dudes in suits need to calm the F down.

Today’s guest is totally killing it on the game changer front. She is Pip Murray from Pip & Nut, the nut butter brand that are completely shaking up and disrupting the spreads category. WTF is the spreads category? It’s that boring shelf in the supermarket with jam, and honey, and peanut butter, not super cool, until Pip&Nut came along and started making dope nut butters.

Pip is like the ultimate badass entrepreneur ladyboss. She lived in a freaking shed to get her company started. Then she hustled hard to get funding and get her products into Selfridges, Sainsbury’s, Ocado, Holland & Barrett. And she’s partnered with huge brands like Nike. If you’ve ever thought about leaving your boring office job and going out on your own, then this is a really inspiring conversation to listen to, and just gives you some insight into the world of wellness startups, or any startup really.

Today’s episode is pretty awesome. I’m talking to Megan Crabbe from Body Posi Panda about all things body positive. We get into diet culture, bikini bodies, body dysmorphia, eating disorders, orthorexia, and intuitive eating. And we talk about how to shut down the negative thought we have about our bodies so we can stop worrying about it, and just do…us.

So it’s a really great conversation, a really important conversation, but if you’ve suffered from disordered eating and you think this could be triggering for you then maybe just go and listen to another episode.

Megan also challenged me to share a bopo pic, so I’m going to put that on my site and on social and I wanna see yours too! So upload a bopo pic telling me something you LOVE about your body to Insta or Twitter and tag me and Megan, and use #DontSaltMyGame, because you don’t have time for that negative body shaming BS.

It’s the very first episode of Don’t Salt my Game, and I’m joined by blogging mega babe Izy Hossack from Top With Cinnamon. GO BIG OR GO HOME! Speaking of big, Izy has some pretty huge news to share (you heard it here first), but you gotta listen to the episode to find out what it is. Plus, find out how she’s saving the environment, one meal at a time, her student kitchen essentials, and her blogging-dorm room situation. Full disclosure, this episode contains a lot of nerding out over nutrition. And find out which wellness trends she thinks are just plain dumb.
